About me
Arbeitsfoto von Klaus HonalI was born in Wassertrüdingen, a small town in Middle Franconia, Bavaria, in 1961.
Since 1987 I have been devoting myself to Nature photography, and in the course of the past years I gathered some considerable photo archives, which I decided to put on the market via Picture agencies and publishing companies in 1994.
Photographs of mine have since been published worldwide in books, magazines, periodicals, calendars and brochures as well as on advertising banners.
In 1995, my photograph “The great spotted woodpecker in action” has been a highly commended in the “BBC-Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition”.
The picture won an award for being one of the best nature documents of the year.
My favoured motives I find in the neighbourhood of my residential town and in the Bavarian Forest, but also in the rest of Germany as well as in other European countries like France, Holland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Scotland and Spain.
Now and then I also visit countries outside Europe such as the Dominican Republic, Kenya, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and in Northern Africa.

Arbeitsfoto von Klaus HonalI mainly use Canon equipment:

I work with digital and analogous cameras. I use objectives of 20–500 mm, also in combination with a converter 1,4x + 2,0x.
As for film material, I prefer Fuji Velvia 50 as well as Fuji Sensia, due to their excellent neatness and brilliant colours.
Last but not least I consider sure and reliable tripods as important components within a nature photographer’s equipment. As for myself, I use tripods of the manufacturers Gitzo and Manfrotto.

What I am concerned about and what I should recommend reflecting upon:

The ever increasing technical progress and the growing greed for power and money causes our ecosystem to be endangered as never before.
What I have got on my mind in particular is the destruction of the tropical rain forests with the ensuing disappearance of ever more species of animals and plants for instance in South America and Borneo as well as the over fishing of the oceans and the pollution of the air, the rivers and lakes.
Therefore I should suggest to everybody to support environmental organizations and associations for the protection of nature such as CCPY in Brazil, Environmental Defence Fund in USA, Milieudefensie Friends of the Earth in Holland, Sahabat Alam Malaysia/Penang, Friends of the Earth in GB, GLOBAL 2000 in Austria, PROBE International in Canada, Survival International in GB, Rainforest Information Center in Australia, Robin Wood in Germany, Pro Regenwald e.V. in Germany, WWF etc.
